SEEK THE LORD

Updated: Sep 5

# Seeking the Lord: A Treasure Hunt for the Soul

## Understanding Isaiah 55:6-7

6 Seek the Lord while He may be found,

Call upon Him while He is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way,

And the unrighteous man his thoughts;

Let him return to the Lord,

And He will have mercy on him;

And to our God,

For He will abundantly pardon.

One of the things that the word "seek" evokes for me is treasure hunting.

The objective in the childhood game of hide and seek is for the one hiding to avoid discovery. For the seeker, it is to expose the hidden one. The last person to be found wins!

The S.E.E.K Devotional Model

These verses fit perfectly with my SEEK Devotional Model.

  • S - Setting

  • E - Error to Avoid

  • E - Example to Follow

  • K - Something to Keep in Memory

Setting

Isaiah urges those listening to him to seek the Lord while He may be found and to call upon Him while He is near. Why?

The challenge is not that God is hiding from us but that we are not looking for Him. There is a human tendency to put off important things for a more convenient time. Accepting God's offer of salvation and getting to know Him and His will for our lives are things we often delay.

Error to Avoid

The wicked are called to forsake their wicked ways, and the unrighteous man, his unrighteous thoughts. What am I doing wrong?

This calls for an inward look—at our thoughts and motives—as well as a deliberate look at our actions, which are obvious to all who can see us. Self-examination is the key to victory here.

Example to Follow

In addition to seeking the Lord and calling upon Him, there is a call to return to the Lord.

This is a call to anyone who once walked with the Lord and has drifted from spending time with Him. It is also a call to those who are keeping God at arm's length and not walking closely enough to Him.

Keep in Memory

It is important to remember who God is. He is the faithful God who keeps His promises to restore those who repent (make the U-turn) and come back to Him.

Unlike the game of hide and seek, when we return to God, everyone wins!

The Call to Action

A time is coming when many obstacles will prevent people from getting through to God.

Consider the many demands for our time today. These include good things like work and family, as well as not-so-good distractions like endless scrolling on social media.

What if this is the last call that you hear from God?

Please do not ignore Him.

Seek the Lord today.

Meditative Reflection

Meditate on the words of Isaiah in this song. Let it resonate in your heart and mind.

The Importance of Seeking God

Seeking God is not just a task; it is a journey. It is about building a relationship with the Creator. When we seek Him, we discover His love, mercy, and grace.

The Rewards of Seeking

When we earnestly seek God, we find peace and purpose. Our lives become enriched with meaning. We learn to navigate challenges with His guidance.

Overcoming Distractions

In our fast-paced world, distractions abound. It is essential to carve out time for God. Prioritize your relationship with Him above all else.

The Power of Prayer

Prayer is a powerful tool in our quest to seek God. It connects us with Him. Through prayer, we can express our thoughts, fears, and desires.

Embracing Community

Being part of a community can enhance our spiritual journey. Surround yourself with others who seek God. Share experiences, insights, and encouragement.

Conclusion

In conclusion, seeking the Lord is a vital aspect of our spiritual lives. It requires intentionality and commitment. Remember, God is always near, waiting for us to call upon Him.

Let us embrace this journey of seeking, knowing that it leads to abundant life and joy.
