Lessons from my backyard - soursop tree

Soursop tree and fruit
Soursop tree and fruit

Weeks after waiting for two soursops on our tree to get ripe … days of constantly coming home from work and going under the tree first thing ... to check if they were still there … remembering the last one that some poor, presumably hungry soul had stolen … one Friday afternoon ... I didn't look for them.

Sunday morning, my mind gave me to check on them and when I did, my heart skipped a few beats. Only one was there on the tree.😔 I still shake my head in disbelief when I remember it.

The Life Lesson

What’s not monitored gets missed.

Based on my past experience, I had been watching the tree very closely, thinking that the soursops were in danger of being stolen. Then due to a moment of inconvenience, I forgot to check in. Because of this lapse, I lost the joy of picking the ripe fruit off the tree.

Turns out it wasn't stolen afterall, but that's another story.

Maybe you have been missing multiple key deadlines at work. Try this.

Practical lessons:

  1. Make time for what's important.

  2. Get a planner.

  3. Keep your appointments.
